I built a new pc for christmas. I got the XFX Radeon 4890 1GB 256mb for my video card.

I hooked that card up to my new ASUS M4a785TD-V mobo.

I haven't been able to get the video card to notice the presence of my new monitor; Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ.

I installed the card into the PCI16_1 initially. When it wouldn't pickup my monitor i moved it to the PCI16_2 slot, but that didn't work either. My mobo appears to be working as the fan runs, and my dvd player which is connected to the mobo via sata works fine. My video card appears to be working also as the fan is running. So it doesn't appear that either product got fried in the install process. I've tried all the basic trouble shooting techniques I could think of.

Any suggestions?

It might be that your onboard video chipset is activated instead of your dedicated card. You might need to enter the bios to set PCIe as your default adapter. This is of course based on the assumption that you hooked the screen cable to the card outputs not the motherboard ones.

And also what you could do is through the OS disable the onboard graphics through device manager, and then install your new card.

Also Rolli had it right with also changing the Bios settings.
Those 2 things should fix your problem, since i had a similar problem on a old computer.

The problem with both those solutions is that I have no way of seeing anything on my screen, so i can't navigate to the bios or anywhere else. Nothing will show up on my new monitor or my old monitor.
