My entire pc right there. I currently got a 600w coolermaster psu and a EVGA GTX 470 running in there. TONSSSS of bottleneck average gpu usage in most games is 40-60%. Cutscenes I rarely got to 99% (only in Mafia 2 I get 99% in cutscenes for some reason and thats when I hit the 60+fps mark). Usually I am running 40% usage at 30fps.

What would be the BEST GAMING CPU that is compatible with that mobo. I am NOT looking to upgrade the actual mobo for the intel sandy bridge stuff etc..

Thanks for all help

From HP's site, it seems this boards only support up to the Agena core with TDP of 95W; this means the strongest CPU it might accommodate would be a Phenom X4 9850. You could always try to contact HP and ask them directly to be sure.

Yes, as Zenthar said. This is the excerpt from the HP link you provided number1:

Processor upgrade information
Socket type: AM2+
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Phenom with Quad Core (Agena) technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt TDP)
Athlon64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt TDP)
Athlon64 less than 4000+
Sempron less than 3800+

You could try to check to see if there's a BIOS update for your board so that it can actually supports CPU's that you can still buy retail. I don't know where you can still buy Athlon X2's or Agena core Phenoms.

well if you had a regular am2+ board that wasn't from hp then you could likely upgrade the bios and run an am3 chip such as a p2 955 the old quads are not very good for gaming being that they are pretty weak cores.. I would contact hp and see if you can run an am3 chip or update mobo bios and get a Phenom II X4 955, otherwise I would not spend a dime on another first gen phenom quad, just not worth it imo, in that case start saving for a new build or lower settings on your current rig if they are not desirable

I think, no dice with a worth while drop in upgrade. You could try flashing with another ECS GeForce 6150SE/nForce 430 and see if that takes. Otherwise, you are in the market for a new microATX/CPU combo and Windows license (if you haven't moved from Vista). A good match for your 470 would be a Athlon II X3 450 and a Biostar N68S for $105 on Newegg.

The best CPU you can get in it is probably a Phenom X4 9750 (2.4GHZ) , which would only be modestly better and you'd have to find on eBay.
