I had a similar problem to this and the way i solved it was by going to the Mobility Centre and switching from balanced power plan to high performance. This is just a workaround but it works until there is an alternative solution available.

Hello Jagdgrs ,
Even I too use same laptop and once same problem came but I resolved it
Try to close all startup apps by going to task manager
If that dosent works download diffrent tools such as iobit
and if that dosent works contact Dell or Just reinstall windows
Dont forget to Benchmark your GPU

there technicians are eager to solve your problem :)

When running on Battery the CPU is running on reduced power to conserve Battery Charge, which suggests to me it runs cooler, and when on Mains power it runs normally, and may be overheating. Download and run Speccy to see what your temps are like. If the GPU doesn't appear in Speccy, try GPU-Z
