Hd5970 vs 5870x2

Seems as if the 5970's have disappeared. Discontinued on NewEgg, nothing shows on BuildEgg, less and less manufacturers showing up.

Wondering if it's worth the wait for the 5970 or should I go with 2 5870's? Which gives better performance?

2 5870's give better performance due to higher core clocks 850 mhz core for 5870, 725 mhz core for 5970

Thanks. I'm thinking 2 5870's rathre than a 295 because the 5870 supports DX11

HD 5970 performs like 2 HD 5850's in CF so its about 10% slower than 2 HD 5870s in CF.However the advantage of getting 1 HD 5970 is that it requires one PCI-E 16x slot also its less noisier than 2 HD 5870s and performance wise,the difference between
1 HD 5970 and 2 5870's in CF isn't very much,so i choose 1 HD 5970,i think its even cheaper too

I would agree with you except 5970's are next to impossible to find. Prior to Christmas there seemed to be about 5 vendors selling the 5970's. Now NewEgg is showing discontinued, Amazon is down to 1 vendor, BuildEgg was showing none, etc.

I'm wondering if the 5970's have run into some type of serious problem and vendors aren't selling until the problem is fixed. Just find it odd that vendors have disappeared.

Maybe I should wait a couple of weeks before I purchase another system?

I don't think they have problems,remember the first that HD 5870 was launched,it was impossible to find one in a store but now they are available

Considering the $200 price difference the HD5970 is the way to go imo.
