Those are not compatible. MB is socket 939 NF4 which is a discontinued socket. CPU is socket AM2. The MSI 939 MB requires a socket 939 processor which has been discontinued for a long while.

EDIT AM2

No The MSI K8N Neo is a socket 939. The CPU is a AM2 socket. You MUST get a socket 939 CPU.

AM2 processors are incompatible with 939 motherboards and vice versa, and although it has 940 pins, it is incompatible with Socket 940. Socket AM2 supports DDR2 SDRAM memory but not DDR memory, which the previous Socket 939 supported

I have not bought from this company, but this is the only place I know of selling new 939 processors at this time. Otherwise check ebay. Before spending a lot of money on old outdated discontinued technoloy, buy a new modern system.

Thanks for the quick replies, I'll look into socket 939 upgrades if they still exist.
This is what I'll try upgrading:

suggestions will be greatly appreciated, I also do not plan on upgrading my mobo.

That retail box in the link is no longer produced. Finding a 939 dual core unopened retail box would be difficult.

Hm, doesn't look like it'll be much of an upgrade from my current cpu.

will a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.4 GHz Processor socket 939 fit on my mobo? it's the same socket but i'll be going from a single core to a dual core.

I cant justify buying a new rig just to play a game, i know its waaay outdated but im sure to be moving on to GT5/COD: blaack ops once they come out.

Sure, be sure to check MSI's K8N Neo Platinum 939 online product page for the BIOS that supports the 4600 X2 939.
