Hello,
what is hyperthreading in core i3 330m processor

More about : hyperthreading

Hyperthreading technology simulates additional cores. Your i3 has two physical cores. Hyperthreading simulates two additional cores (one virtual core per physical core). Basically, you have a dual core cpu that pretends to be a quad core cpu.

I thought the i3 series wasn't going to have HT. Did Intel enable it for some CPUs?

So i3 yes, i5 no, and i7 yes? This is getting complicated

^Not really. In essence we have fake quad, true quad then fake octo. Soon there will be a true octo to go with it.

I can see why the i3 has SMT as it does help in some multithreaded apps. But for a quad its useless unless you do heavy multithreading hence the i7.

I am afraid it is more complicated then you think. There are dual core i5s with hyperthreading as well as i5s with four cores and without hyperthreading.

I think this naming scheme is a mess.

^There is only one i5 quad core, the i5 750. Beyond that is the i7 LGA1156 quads then the LGA 1336 i7s.

I agree, a complete mess. Must have had some Nvidia marketers come up with the naming scheme. And I think jimmy you mean to say "only one i5 quad core so far." I'm sure intel will be releasing more chips.

The i3 just cut out the turbo boost which all the i5 series have except the 750. Am I the only one that doesn't think the naming scheme isn't that complicated?
