Sytem upgrade advice

Hello, Im just looking for advice on whether upgrading the ram on my current system would be throwing my money away or extending its life.

current specs

AMD Opteron 185 (socket 939 dual core OC to 3.0 ghz)

2gb ram (x4 ddr 400 512mb sticks)

8800GTS 512 OC'd

Windows 7 64-bit

I'm thinking about either upgrading the ram to 4gb (x4 1gb)
for about $100-$130 usd

or

saving my money and waiting to upgrade to a AM3 system with a phenom 2 x4 955 and 4 gb of ddr3.
