SLI on AMD motherboard?

In order to be able to run SLI (specifically two GTX 460s) on an AMD motherboard (specifically running a 955 BE or a 1055T), does the motherboard NEED to have a northbridge that says "NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI"?

Thanks for the reply.

What if I use two Geforce cards on a motherboard that doesn't have an nForce chipset but does have two PCIe slots? Would the second card simply not work at all or would it be underperforming (and if so, but about how much)?

Edit: The thing is, I live in Asia, and where I am I cannot find any AM3 motherboards that also have an nForce chipset. So I just wanted to know whether my plan of running an AM3 processor with SLI Geforce is out of the question or would I still be able to do it while just slightly underperforming.

So there are motherboards out there that support SLI even though they don't have an nVidia chipset?

Edit: And if so, how could one find out whether a motherboard without an nVidia chip supports SLI without having to see the "SLI ready" label on it?
