why not a 4770 or a 4850 wich are both cheaper and handles good at low res.
with that resolution you dont need a 9800 gt, the 4850 is often cheaper and has perfromance equal to 9800 GTX +.

Hd 4850 is a little bit faster than 9800GT...
Before that, don't u want to upgrade your proc too? It's only Pent. D, it's pretty weak, hot, and consumes much power...
Forget about GTA 4, it need at least quad proc to play even at the lowest setting... :)

A 4850 is significantly faster than a 9800GT. It's on the level of the 9800GTX/GTX+/GTS250 after all. Of course the problem is that they are currently in short supply :D . Anyway, if you want to play modern games first upgrade your CPU. You will have to research your board and see what CPUs it can support. It will likely need a BIOS update to support CPUs more recent than your Pentium D.

If you are stuck with that CPU and don't want to upgrade your whole setup at the time, then you probably shouldn't buy anything more than a GT240 for now. By the way, what kind of PSU do you have. If you have a weak PSU then you shouldn't try to pair it with a more powerful GPU.
