HP dv9608nr no display some of the time

I have a strange problem. I'm working on a dv9608nr, it's having problems typical of a failing LCD. Sometimes it will light up and run for 24 hrs with the screensaver on. Other times you have to power on/power off many times to get it to come on. External monitor always works. I replaced LCD first, it still happened; then replaced backlight inverter because i'm running out of logical things to replace, it still happens. I checked the connections to the display. I don't think it's the video card because the external monitor works every time. Graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 7150M/nForce 630M. Any ideas? Thanks.

The owner told me that he only experiences this problem when starting the computer or waking it up from sleep/hibernation. If the display lights up, it never goes off while he's working. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.
