Why does my ati 5770 graphics card crash when i try to play a game on my tv

I have the XFX 5770 and it runs perfectly fine, until i try to play any game like supreme commander, Battleforge, and many more, even if i have them set in there lowest settings. I have used the catalyst to watch the temp and gpu usage up until the moment of the crash the warmest the temp ever get is about 38 C even if i have the fan set to 50% but when i maxed the fan out it stays around 33 C, I have tried to uninstall the drivers and the catalyst and tried the driver disk that came with it and the latest drivers and all in between, my resoltuin is set to 1920 x 1080p at 60Hzs. My system specs are the Phenom II x4 940 black Edition Oc'd to 3.3 Ghz, 8Gb of dual channel DDR2 OCZ 1066 ram, biostar TA790GX 128 M mother board, Thermaltake 550 watt power supply, Coolermaster V8 cpu cooler, western digital 500GB 7200rpm SATA HD,Themaltake SopranoRS case with great ventilation, Vista Home Premium 64bit SP-2. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What is the make and model of TV? How is the gpu connected to the TV?

Sony Bravia KDL - 52V4100, and its connected by the old style VGA cable

I dont know about causing it to crash but that VGA cable isnt going to handle a 1920x1080 signal for sure

Not the TV. I have same problem. Google "HD 5770 crashes" and read the pages of similar replies.
