what happens if you solder a capacitor onto a place on a mobo that looks like its supposed to have one but does not

I dont think soldering works! It only makes it worse. Plus if its not supposed to be in that place, then the damage may be increased.

Have you done such a thing??

I am sorry, but why on earth would you do something like that? Exactly what is your line of reasoning? What is the purpose?

i was not going to do it
it is just that the mobo has so many places for caps but do not have them soldered on

Well, it's pretty simple actually. That same PCB board is probably used for many different variations of the basically the same line of motherboards. So the basic board is built with capability of adding features for higher end boards, or different configurations, that is all.
