Hello,
I want to install XP Pro on a PC that has been wiped.
When I try to open the CD player to insert the restore CD, the CD door will not open.
I've inserted other CD players in this PC. None of them will open. I put them in a different CD and they open.
What can I try next?

If the drive doesn't open from pressing the button when you turn it on, wait 5-10 seconds, then try. Also, if it never works, it means 1 of 3 things: the drive button is broken, the drive is broken, or the power cable is not hooked up properly.

Does the light show on the drive? If it does, does it ever turn off?

For the short run...Perhaps you could push that button the size of a pin that's located on most CD drives.

For the long run, I think it might be possible that it's a motherboard issue, in which case the pinhole button won't serve any real purpose.
<Quickedit: If not a motherboard issue, it also might be a wiring issue, the solution for which is not something I possess.>

And just to clarify--
You've put this particular drive in another computer, and it works.
And you've tried putting other known-to-be-working drives in this computer, and they won't open?
