Disk missing

Hello,
Autochk started chkdsk on reboot - I was too slow to stop it. BUT ... chkdsk stalled on stage 4 of 5 - showing 41 of 210000 sectors checked. I left it for three hours, no change, so was forced to reboot. Now that disk shows as Missing. How can I unlock or reactivate a disc that DOS cannot see? OS is Vista.

Sounds like either the disk is corrupted or a hardware problem.

1) Is this your system disk?
2) Is it detected in BIOS?
3) Try the simple solution: re-seat all the cables at both ends.
You will likely have to run some sort of recovery tool like Recuva or EASEUS Partition Recovery.

Do you have backups?
