Partitioning C drive

hi frnds,
i have only one drive i.e., C: and no other partitions in my Hard Disk, all my data resides in C: and currently about 76 GB is free on C: drive so when i try to shrink it , it shows a new partition of only 4 GB capacity. Cant i create another partition with atleast 50 GB capacity? And why does it show only 4 GB when the free space is actually 76 GB? help me .. Thanku

Unasked-for advice: Please create a complete backup of your drive before going any further. That way, if something gets messed up you at least have a copy of your system.
