Raid controller doesnt see expander

Hello,
My Intel RT3WB080 RAID controller says it supports port expanders, but when I plug in a CFI-B53PM 5 Port Backplane (SiI3726), the controller only reports one drive.

I have tried lots of options in the RAID BIOS pre-boot command tool and commands like -pdGetNum -a0 only find one drive. A cheapo Adaptec controller that doesn't have all of the features I need and doesn't work with more than two controllers in the motherboard at once sees all five drives just fine. Where can I go for help?

Thanks,
Daniel

More about raid controller doesnt expander
  1. Unless someone here has experience with that particular board, can you contact your vendor or Intel for support?
  2. LOL!

That is a SAS controller, it needs a SAS expander, not Port Multiplier
the cost of SAS expander range about $280~ $350.00/ea
  3. FireWire2

I had looked that up and seen that it is a SAS controller. But SAS controllers can control SATA drives, yes? So they are compatible with the drives but not the multipliers? I had no idea.

Yes, SAS controller will work with SATA drive, but it DOES NOT Support Port Multiplier (PM Ware)

To expand, it has to use SAS expander, not PM
  5. Support chips sil3124|3132 controllers, other not support.
