RAM: 3 x 2GB or 4 x 2GB?

Most new motherboard run in dual channel mode so most likely yours does too you should keep it even. Dual channel config will double the bandwidth the memory controller has to use. Good way to tell is if the dimm slots are color coded. So the answer is use an even amount.

Ok, not problem the post can be moved to the correct section.

If your rig support tri-channel is a good idea keep the 3x2GB, if not, get the 4GB in dual-channel.

O boy yea forgot about tri channel hes right if you have an I7 rig your motherboard may support tri channel config in that case you would want to run 3 or 6 sticks.
