Okay so I haven't found any info on this, should I go trifire with 4890's, even though i'd get x16,x16,x4. Or should I go crossfire with 4890's and get a 9800 to handle PhysX? Would this still operate at x16,x16,x4? I will be playing at 1680x1050 and 1920x1080.

thanks in advance!

Specs:
amd phenom ii x4 955 black edition, (not overclocked yet)
dfi am3 lan party mobo
4gb ddr3
velociraptor 300gb
caviar black 1tb
1000 watt psu
3 4890's (maybe?)

I should have been more specific, I already bought 2 4890's, should i get a third, or get a 9800? Also, I dont care for dx11 support, if I did, I would have bought dx11 cards. Also I get the 4890's for 150 brand new because of where I work :D

and my work doesnt sell the 5000 series yet.

Leave your 2 4890's alone. They'll give you what you need for a while. As far as Physics goes....... ati cards cannot give it to you. Only nvidia. In the past you could run ati cards as main graphics and use an nvidia for physics in the same box but nvidia put a stop to it. If you get an old nvidia physics driver and an 8 or 9 series card you might get lucky if you want to try it. I don't run nvidia and ati together anymore so I can't tell you if it still works. ........ and you left out your operating system in the specs.

It's seems u wasting your money to get a third of 4890. u will see slight performance increased when u added the 3rd card on crossfire...
Well, that's just my opinion.

I think you will be dealing with a lot of heat with a 3rd card. Personally I would wait until your work sells the 5xxx series and get one of those as I suggested before. I'm not experienced with crossfire as much as I am with SLI and a 3rd card in SLI hasn't been worth the upgrade in my scenarios.

Crossfire may scale better especially with the newer cards but someone else here that has a setup like you are wanting will need to better answer that.

I would freeze buying anything else until your company offers newer cards... ;)

Leave your 4890 as it is. Two 4890s Xfired is superior to both a 5870 and a GTX295.
It can play any game maxed out at any resolution and can play Crysis almost maxed out at 1920x1080.

Which happens to be like the best game ever :D  Also it cant max out GTA IV at playable frame rates. The main reason I want insane graphics is because I want to record with FRAPS at high specs. Can I dedicate a card to do this maybe?

Thanks for all your help though guys, I stuck with the 4890's. Don't need anything more atm, when prices drop, I'll get dual 5870 haha
