I3 processor vs core 2 duo

You'll need a new motherboard to upgrade to an i3 or i7. Although if you are just upgrading the CPU then go for a Core2 Quad. You won't need a new motherboard and you will see better performance from a C2Q than an i3 due to the two extra cores. If, however you wanted the i7 a new board is a must ![:)]( ":)")
