I purchased a copy of XP. According to what I have seen when attempting to load it I cannot do so with 98 on my current machine. If anyone has a method of allowing me to install XP I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

From what I've done so far with my installation, I just popped in the CD while Windows was running. I have Win ME, BTW. Anyway, you can't run setup in DOS if that's what you are trying to do. If you want to do a clean install, you need to either download the file to create boot disks (you'll need 6 floppies) or boot up from the CD itself. Hope that helps.

Is this an upgrade or full version?

Full Version. I am attempting to install it on a kg7-Raid (ABIT). (I have the most recent Raid drivers). Any more info needed I can provide.

What exactly is happening when you are trying to install XP? Can you even start up the installation at all? How are you going about installing XP (clean install, etc.)?

Have you tried using the boot disks if you are trying the clean install?

if you have 98 on, just pop in the cd whilst in windows and follow it through, you will be askied to upgrade or clean install, if you choose clean install, also look in the advanced and it will give you an option to specify the partition to be installed on- just follow it through, its not rocket science.
As for installing from dos, go into the i386 folder and run winnt.exe

Nam:

I get the Raid drivers installed then it gives me the all powerful "setup is starting windows" and it never starts.

Calv: I will try and reinstall 98 then do a clean install of xp. probably the best method for success.
