I'm really new to hardware, as I have spent most of my time just messing around with software. I know very little about graphics cards, and would like your help. I need to know which of the following cards is better. The ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB, or the nVidia GeForce 9800Gt. Your help is very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

The 9800GT is way better. It's an entry gaming card. The 4350 is just a card for
rudimentary display purposes.

4350 < 4550 ~ 9400GT < 4650 DDR2 ~ 9500GT DDR3 ~ GT220 < 4650 DDR3 < 4670 ~ 9600GSO
< 3870 ~ 9600GT ~ GT240 < 4830 ~ 9800GT/8800GT < 4770 ~ 8800GTS 512 < 4850 ~ 9800GTX/GTS250

Also consider a 4830, it performs the same and costs less. Or the 4770, costing the same and performs slightly better.

To answer your question: The 9800GT is vastly better than an ATI Radeon 4350.

The 9800 is the best card currently available in the $80-105 price range. The 4350 is the best card available in the $30-40 price range.

You came to the right place to ask! For more detailed advice let us know

1) what you want it to do,
2) what your price range is, and
3) what your current system and power supply are.

I am choosing between two computers actually. I want to know which graphics card is best, because they are basically the same.

The one with the nVidia card is:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz (8MB L2 Cache)
6GB DDR2 Memory, 640GB HDD,
nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB,
16x DVDR/RW Drive,
15-in-1 Card Reader,
7.1 CH HD Audio,
LAN,
IEEE1394,
TV Tuner

The ATI card is in:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz
6GB DDR2 Memory,
640GB SATA II HDD,
ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB,
Super-Multi DVDR/RW,
Card Reader,
7.1CH HD Audio,
GigaLAN, IEEE1394

I think the top one is better, but I would like a more knowledgeable person's advice.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, get the first one. The CPU in the first one is much better (at stock, they run about the same, but the Q6600 can be overclocked 1GHz, whereas the Q8200 can barely manage 300MHz).

The 9800GT in the first one is also much better.

Are the two the same price?
