Loud clicking on external HDD

This might be the click of death by reading other posts.
But my external HDD dropped off the sofa and now when i try to connect the drive i get a loud clicking noise and the pc wont recognize the drive. Is it done for? I didnt know if anyone has actually took one apart and fix one.

  1. You are right! This clicking is usually the click of death.

You can try an unconventional approach to try and salvage data off this disk. Deep freeze the hard disk overnight. Then quickly connect it to a computer and see whether any data is salvageable.

  2. Thats what i was afraid of. It was just music and movies on there, so I get that back. Just hate to lose the hard drive. but thanks.
