Hey! I am building my first pc! I have chosen the asrock z77 extreme6 as my motherboard, the intel core i5-2500k (plan to overclock), the NZXT Switch 810, and some g.skill ripjaws x 8gb memory for my gaming build. I was originally going to get the CM Hyper 212 Plus, for 19.99 on newegg, but the price went back up to 29.99. So I decided that if I was goin to spend 30-ish dollars on a heatsink fan, then why not choose a better one! I was looking at the CM X6 Elite, but it is very big. I was wondering if it would fit and not block my RAM or anything. I picked it because it is well reviewed except for size and I like the angle. Also it will look AMAZING in my build. Anyway, can someone tell me if this will fit, and if not whether I would be better to choose a new cpu cooler or new ram (if the ram is blocking it) Any other suggestions on my build are welcome and full list can be seen here http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dYYs Thanks in advance and please note that some parts on the list are not final (RAM, CPU Cooler, and I might get a sound card and cold cathode lights not sure yet)

The 2nd quote is from the Z77 Extreme 6 manual. And DDR3_A2 and DDR3_B2 are the 2nd and 4th slots.

Personally I went with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233186 when I was using the Coolermaster 212+, it's a little more than the Gskill's, but these are really close in price and timings wise they all seem to be the same Corsiar XMS 3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233202

Thanks for the response. However, the question was more asking will the ram fit under it? sorry for the mix up!

The CM X6 Elite will interfere with the two memory slots closest to the cpu. If you need to use those two memory slots, then you will need either memory with standard height heatspreaders or low profile memory. If you can get by using just the two memory slots furthest away from the cpu you'll be okay. Consult your motherboard manual to find out if you can just use the two outer memory slots.

I think you would be better off with a Hyper 212. The X6 is huge. There are some additional problems trying to fit it inside a case.

TIP - Install the memory before you install the cpu heatsink. Installation is a lot easier that way.

Taken from a review on newegg
2.) Even my G.Skill sniper ram was to tall to fit underneath this monster. Had to Switch the side the fan was on and it's direction.
3.) Had to take the side panel fan out of my NXZT phantom case.

The Sniper ram is shorter. So no it wouldn't fit, unless you can use the far right side dimms, which according to the manual you should be able to do.

You have to install identical DDR3
DIMMs in Dual Channel A (DDR3_A1 and DDR3_B1; Black slots; see p.14
No. 9) or identical DDR3 DIMMs in Dual Channel B (DDR3_A2 and DDR3_
B2; Black slots

OK thanks even though I already bought the parts just now and I decided to go with another cooler. I read that and thought of your post actually! The build is in the process (just finished external build)

Thanks for the responses and your welcome for the BA
