Is it really a need to have heatsinks on my ram for a gaming computer? It was a cheap build. The memory is Corsair DDR3 4GB PC1333MHz DUAL.

antec 300 case (with basic stock fans, no other fans added
athlon ii x3 rana 440
radeon hd 5770
msi 870-g54 mobo

THANKs!

If you are talking about a fan overtop of your RAM, than it is not necesary. If you are talking about the heat sink, as part of the RAM, I would recommend purchasing one with it over a "Value" line.

Can you link the actual model number of the RAM , so we can see what you are talking about?

It's useful when u run the rig many hours per day and when u do OC besides that the RAM usually don't produces many heat.

The RAM have high CL, if u can RMA and get another one with CL8 or less is better but from the same brand or Crucial, G.Skill or Kingston.

1) Your RAM will work just fine. You just won' be able to "overclock" the RAM. Just run at posted specs and all will be well.

2) It is not needed unless you want to overclock your RAM. If that was the case, I would recommend getting a different model anyways.
