SATA hard drive question

I bought an HP Pavilion desktop a few months ago. It came with a 1TB SATA drive which was set up as a RAID configuration. After using it for a few weeks I decided to add a second SATA hard drive inside the case for BU purposes. I could not get the desktop to recognize the drive. I tried all the SATA ports on the main board.

I tried changing the drive configuration to AHCI and also IDE. Neither booted up.

What is the best way to get a second drive in the box?

I tried a full image BU and a restore to a drive configured for IDE.
No joy.

If the bios isn't seeing it, it sounds like the new hdd is doa. If the bios can see it but not windows, it is because you need to initialize it in disk management.

The BIOS does not see it.
The second drive is OK.

Most likely the hdd is doa.
