Hi Guys

My sons sony cd/dvd writer is playing up on an Abit IL9 motherboard

Its recognised in device manager but refuses to read or write anything.
In device manager i have an exclamation mark in my scsi and raid controller tab which points to something called AVS5FS76 IDE controller that the driver is unable to be loaded for as its missing or corrupted.

tried uninstalling and on restart system pops up with found new hardware but fails to load drivers even though i downloaded the chipset drivers from Abit.

Can anyone help out or is this nothing to do with my Drive problem.

Thanks

Stanna

Looks like you have a bad IDE controller unless it is for some strange reason disabled in BIOS!

Check your BIOS for disabled IDE controller and if none there is little you can do.

Found this thread below and that has sorted out my ide controller
as i had daemon tools on my system.

Still my drive will not read orwrite disks but is mechanically ok?

"You guys may well have found this solution already but for anyone else who comes looking.

It's a hangover from daemon tools or another virtual drive program you've used.

find the driver in Windows/system32/drivers
(If you find a suspicious driver google it and see what it is)

Mine was sptd.sys (I'd been using daemon tools lite)
On another forum I heard the driver name might start with st3

Delete it (in my case I renamed and moved it to make sure it worked but didn't screw anything else up)

disable and uninstall the problem device in device manager.
It won't come back when you restart."
