Does anyone have thier idle temperatures for an FX4170 as mine dropped to 1 degree celsius, regularly idles at 4-6 degrees celsius. Or is coretemp being a bit of an arse?!?!

I'm guessing your reporting software isn't reporting correctly. 1C is like 34F, so unless you live in a freezer, I'm guessing there is a reporting issue. Even 6C is too low. Your ambient room temp isn't that low, much less a running CPU.

Try a new reporting software for temps

that was kind of my hunch, shame really as my 1100T polled perfectly at 17 degrees. May i ask which temps software you would suggest to record temps well?

I have an AMD FX-4170 attached to a Khuler 620 using Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 thermal bond

I use PC Wizard 2012 and it works perfectly (the old version had issues with my 2500k reporting). I know there are more, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Where did this go?

BTW There is a problem with FX CPU's for Idle temps!

Where did what go? My 1100T? Its sat in its box in a kitchen cupboard all on its lonesome. Is the problem the fact that I've now noticed that CoreTemp displays my FX as AMD Processor BE

I so hope this is the case, maybe I should run Prime and see what happens!!??

You downgraded! :(

Nah I like this it runs very cool, ocs easier, 4 cores run better than six plus it only cost me £78

Just installed PC Wizard (CPUid) nice program, can't believe I never notice it!

Still shows as idling at 5.2 degrees. Ive put my head in the case and it is cold!!

No, it doesn't, that is a downgrade, the FX series IPC is pretty bad even when compared at overclocked speeds, it isn't really 5.2c idling the software i reporting it wrong.

If you were to go into BIOS and read the temperature there I can assure you it won't read 5.2c. Said from a fellow FX user.

It's a shame to hear that as I really rate mine. So you reckon I should go back to my 1100T? Bios is showing 21 degrees CPU and 22 degress mobo temps.

I have a 1045t OC to 3.4 (So it's basically a stock 1100t) And I recently overclocked my son's friend's FX4100 to 4.4Ghz.

My 1045tX6 @3.4Ghz rig is faster than the FX @4.4Ghz. in benchmarks and feels a little better in games too. GTX 560 in mine vs HD 6850 in the FX rig. (Comparable cards)

Once you factor in the extra cores, like for HD rendering, the FX gets crushed. Even at 4.4 Ghz on the FX.

So I vote for going back to the 1100t.

4.4Ghz vs 3.4Ghz the FX should top the 1045T though unless the game is threaded for 6 cores, you sure that OC is stable?

2hrs of prime 95 and a couple weeks of game play stable. It also had a few benchmarks ran a gazillion times after the OC with no issues. (cinebench 11.5, futurmark, passmark, unigine heaven, etc)

I even updated the BIOS on his UD3 and disabled APM to ensure it wouldn't throttle.

GPU's may have made a difference in game play feel...

Go back to the 1100T it was the highest end Phenom II CPU and tops the 2nd lowest FX CPU.

Just went core for core using Cinebench 11.5 single-core bench.

1045t @ 3.4Ghz = 1.12

FX4100 @ 4.4 Ghz = 1.07

I have turbo enabled at 3.78 Ghz on my 1045t and disabled altogether on the FX, so I will retest with turbo disabled...

**Update**

Without turbo, my single-core score (For the 1045t@3.4Ghz) is only 1.02. I'm guessing that turbo put me over the top in lightly-threaded applications and the extra cores took care of the heavily-threaded stuff.

However, I'm sure the 1100t can perform as well as my OC 1045t, and even much better once the 1100t gets its own OC.

i have the same processor, and mine reports in the same area as yours. i have 3 different videos showing different programs.

i have other videos using other programs but this one shows most of the programs..

All fx report strange idle temps , my 8350 idles at 8c , impressive if it were true . What's up with that / Plus it reports 8350 package temp ?? wtf ?? where did the individual core temps go ? 8C that's oe cold package ,
