48GB workstation with Win XP

I have just bought a workstation with 48 GB RAM, however i have read somwhere that Win Xp only can use 4 GB RAM. So in case of the workstation I have 44 RAM that can be used??

All 32-bit Windows systems are limited to 3-point-something GB of RAM. Install a 64-bit OS and use it all.

You will have to do a complete reinstall; you cannot upgrade a 32-bit version to a 64-bit version.

In addition to what has been said, I do not recommend XP x64 as it doesn't have as good of driver support as Vista x64 or win 7 x64.
