Why does the words and icons on my windows xp look bold

The fonts and icons on my windows xp look bold or somehow larger than before. This includes the START at the left-side bottom corner, to all the words on files, pictures, videos, etc. How can I change my windows xp, so that everything can be viewed small sized again and clearer?
