Hello everyone, I own a Dell Dimension E521 and recently I have decided to upgrade my video card to a Nvidia 9600GT. With this, I know that I will also have to upgrade my original 305W PSU. But since I really know nothing about PSUs and which ones will work with my particular computer, I was wondering if someone might recommend me one that is at least 400W and is under $30.00.

Thanks!

400 watts and less than $30, don't bother, you won't find a 400w / $30 psu that is any more powerful than the Dell 305.

A) Use the adapter that come's with the card, the Dell 305 can power it.

B) Save some more money and buy a halfway decent powersupply

Why hello again delluser1. I am not familiar with this "adapter that comes with the card" that you speak of. Would this fix my power issues that I am having with the 9600GT?

The video card comes with a dual molex to 6 pin power adapter, that would fix the "power issues".
Check the second photo in the TD link for the card to see it.
Then check your psu, Dell in thier infinite wisdom revised the 305 a couple of times, so you may or may not have any molex connections.

Alright, let me check my computer to see if I got the molex ports...... would these happen to be them:

Is this it? It was dangling out of the power supply.

Yeah... I realized what that was immediately after I posted my response. But now, I think I have found it! It was hidden away at the roof of the tower with a black cap on it.

But uh, it seems like it would be kinda short. Like I said, the cable is at the top of the tower and it doesn't seem to have much slack in it.

Okay, so with that extension cable that you just put forth and the adapter that comes with the video card, I should be good to go right?
