I have a budget of around $300 to build a solid entry-level PC. I'd like to get a decent dual-core CPU and MB to match, 2GB RAM should be plenty for this user, DVI output video is a requirement. Also, recommendations for inexpensive, slim cases would be great. Thanks

Here's a few ideas:
CPU - $99 shipped! Easy to OC to 3.6-3.8 gHz (1 min. in BIOS to adjust multiplier)
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor - Retail

Mobo - $88 shipped - $10 MIRc = $78! Has plenty of ports for accessories!! IT DOES need a dedicated GPU though, so I'm not sure if that is what your looking for??
GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

or

Mobo - $88 shipped! Has onboard GPU (AMD 4200!!) and D-sub/DVI-HDMI output ports for the video!!

There are pleny of options for mobo's too, so depending on your budget and needs, these selections can change.

On the "slim" cases, what did you want to do with or where did you want to put the slim case??
