Upgrade on yearold homebuilt

i want to upgrade my year old pc for his birthday. Hehehehe! plz help me choose... im open minded

This is what i have at present.

700watt powersup

Intel X48 Chipset Core 2 Extreme ATX M/B

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz 6M 1333MHz [E8400]

4GB DDR2-800 DIMM (PC800) m/b suports 8GB ram

ATi Radeon 4870 PCI Express x16 512MB, DDR5 DX10.1 W/Dual DVI, HDTV-OUT

monitor LCD 19'' 1280x1024

now my problem..........

i want to see a diffrence in the display. So will a second ATi 4870 512 HD do the trick in crossfire or a new monitor with better colour ratio?

ive never tried overclocking

Get a better monitor! 23-24" with full HD resolution. Then think about GPU upgrade.

1) see, its more about getting a bit more performance and quality to the games im playing.

2) if i want to crossfire a second GPU, witch GPU will you recomend or is it better to crossfire it with the same model? Or do you think i must save and buy a better card than what i have at present?

crossfire with a 4870 will work is a 4850/4870/4870x2/4890
