Hi, I currently have Gygabyte motherboard GA-MA770-DS3 revision 1 http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2722&ver= and AMD processor 3800 + 64 x2 http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=63&f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=&f10=False&f11=&f12=&f13= and I would like to have a new processor in computer. I saw that I could buy Phenom 2 which is made for AM2+ socket. Seems that this Phenom 2 http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=293&Itemid=63 is pretty good processor but I dont know if motherboard that I currently have could deliver that much power. I also have 2 GB of RAM ATI HD 3870 and 500 w PSU so I think by buying this product I could get much better computer for some time. Do yout think that this processor would be compatible with this motherboard? Thank in advance.

This proc. is not listed in the AM3 socket support list.
But, why would you get the 940? Get the 955 it's $160 and it's a little faster than it + is in the list of CPU's supported:)

BTW whats the price of this 940 you wanna get?

My motherboard does not support AM3 socket. This is the only Phenom 2 which has AM2+ socket. The price will be around 200 USD.

No, it's not on the list...
And yes it's an excellent quad CPU

And on this site:
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-MA770-DS3%28rev._1.0%29.html

It says your mobo is compatible with 940
Hmm.....

Yes I see that you are absolutely right. I sent a question to the Gygygabyte to so I am right know waiting for an answer. Thanks for the link. I also think that this Phenom should be compatible with this board but I wouldnt want to spend money if it is not.

I have finally received an answer on this question from Gygabyte.

Q: Hi, I wanted to ask You if You could tell me whether I could replace my current processor with AMD Phenom 2 x4 940 http://www.ve-mil.hr/opis.aspx?prikaziTemplate=0&Sifra=1010750 ? I know that it has the same socket as the current processor but I cannot find it in your compatibility list for this motherboard http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2722&ver= I am also aware that it uses more power and I cannot find in technical data if this motherboard supports it.

I have a big dillemma right now about purchase. Does anyone now for sure why this would be possible or not? Are there any other things to consider except socket when buying a processor like wattage or something else? I know that this processor is stated to be 125W and my current one is 89W but on the compatibility list there is another Phenom 9750 X4 which is also processor of 125W and is compatible.
