I messed up and bought the KHX1800C9D3T1K3/6GX(XMP) when I own an Asus M4A89GTDPRO/USB3 motherboard. Yeah only 2gb work in dual channel and now am currently looking for another 2gb stick to run dual channel with my leftover 2gb stick. The closest I've found is the KHX1800C9D3/2G. Will this work? The latter looks different, but thats because of the heatsink, what I'm also concerned about is the fact that the owned memory is XMP and the prospective memory is not. As it sits I have a 2gb $75 paperweight sitting on my desk. SUGGESTIONS? COMMENTS? (P.S. Economically Challenged Individual......Please be kind. LOL)

If you do use two different types of memory, it will probably work but both DIMMS will run at the slowest...

Its advised to have same memory in both channels.

now i all you imo need to do is check if both are same mhz and the cas timings. if timings are same then you are good to go.
