Dumb question about memory

If I have sticks of ram that are 1gig each, can I mix those with sticks that are 2gig each? Provided they are the same speed, of course.

I think you can mix and match all you want, i just think (im not 100% thou) that the system will run stable and if it does, i think it will run at the lowest speed of RAM you have DDR Wise
