Hi. I just built my new rig with 3770k. But it's running at 38-42c in idle default settings. Is this normal?

Yep that's normal

Looks normal. What's your ambient temperature like?

Also put it under load. It shouldn't cross 70*C under prime95.

Ambient temp is 25-27c

Ah. Then it may be a bit high. I have a core 2 quad (95w tdp) and a 212 EVO. I'm using the stock thermal paste. With an ambient of 30-33*C and a 25% load, i'm seeing 38 to 45*C on the cores.

Sometimes the thermal sensors are a bit off, so it could be that. As i said, put it under load and see.

I don't know if this helps or not but I have a 3570k OC'ed to 4.2Ghz and she idles around 37C (varies by +/- 1 or 2 degrees) with a 212 EVO. I used the Arctic Silver paste when I installed my cpu cooler. My idle temps have actually dropped a bit since I built my machine a few months ago. I've read that your cpu paste will cure over the 1st few months and that helps decrease your temps. If you just built this machine, perhaps you will experience this as well?
