Do each of you have user accounts on the other computer? It may just be that it doesn't recognize you as a user. If you are asked for a username/password, try using Guest.

BTW, what OS are you using on the computers?

sorry. I thought I had put that in. We are using winXP pro. I think it has come down to this. When my friend and I set up the network between the 2 of us, we can "see" each other, and he can get into my files, but I can not see his files. When I try and acess his files it tills me that I do not have premission. So i know it has something to do whit the premissions, but i can not find which ones. I have gone through his entire win system looking for everything I know of and i can not find out what it is that is not set up right. I have even tryed signing on to his comp with a geust log in and it askes for a password, but we didnt set a password up and we can not go in as the admin and change it. I hope this gives you so more info. anyother questions just ask.

!st I doubt it but both of you are NTFS right noone is running on FAT32?
Second I found that switching workgroup helps. For some reason when both of you are in workgroup it will try to log as guest or something. CHnage your work group to something else if its the case and then use a account that has admin right on the other machine to logon and you should have all permission needed.

And if you dont already use it, use regular file sharing, open my computer , tools, folder options, view, uncheck simple file sharing down there.

Then right clicking on a folder or drive and selecting sharing will let you see share permision. check ntfs permission too...
