Solution
Assuming that this is your system:

Are you able to go into the BIOS when it does boot, say with 1 DIMM installed if need be, and raise the Command Rate from 1T to 2T?

Sometimes, but not always, with processors that have an integrated memory controller (most, if not all, Athlon 64 series CPUs) the command rate for may need to be set to 2T when for correct operation with 3 or more DIMM slots populated.

When you move the larger 2 x 2 GB DIMMs so they are paired and the 'first' DIMMs in the system (2 DIMMs total) by themselves does it work?

When you do the above, then install the 2 x 1 GB DIMMs in the second channel (4 DIMMs total) does it work?

When you check the installed and available memory (Start, Right click on Computer, then select Properties) what does Windows report for "Installed memory (RAM):"?

Are you able to increase the voltage by +0.1 Volts to +0.2 Volts?

Acer's stance on the Aspire m3100 is that:
■ It only supports a maximum of 4GB RAM in Dual Channel operation.
■ It does not support any version of Windows 7.
■ Acer do not provide Windows 7 drivers for this system.

Guides and Manuals:

Other Ideas:
A BIOS update might help (I would suggest doing this with only 1 DIMM slot populated if you are considering it).

Downloading the drivers for the AMD 690V + SB600 chipset from AMD might also help, as the system is booting in Safe Mode after all.

thank you for your imput ,i tried some different 4gb ram before reading your response,it did the same so I guess each slot does not support 2gb only 1gb per slot ,so crucial scan is wrong ,I thought change from 32bit to 64bit would be the difference,so I guess I will have to stick with 1gb per slot and move to 6400 or 8500 thanks again [kia]
