Hello, have acer m3100 desktop had vista 32bit,3gb memory 2 at 1gb,2 at 512gb ,upgraded to win 7 64 bit ultimate, did crucial memory scan says can hold 8gb pc5300,pulled 2 at 512 and replaced with 2 at 2 gb for 6gb total, now will not boot goes to safe mode sreen, memory is same make as 2gb left in what could be problem
Are you able to go into the BIOS when it does boot, say with 1 DIMM installed if need be, and raise the Command Rate from 1T to 2T?
Sometimes, but not always, with processors that have an integrated memory controller (most, if not all, Athlon 64 series CPUs) the command rate for may need to be set to 2T when for correct operation with 3 or more DIMM slots populated.
A BIOS update might help (I would suggest doing this with only 1 DIMM slot populated if you are considering it).
Downloading the drivers for the AMD 690V + SB600 chipset from AMD might also help, as the system is booting in Safe Mode after all.
thank you for your imput ,i tried some different 4gb ram before reading your response,it did the same so I guess each slot does not support 2gb only 1gb per slot ,so crucial scan is wrong ,I thought change from 32bit to 64bit would be the difference,so I guess I will have to stick with 1gb per slot and move to 6400 or 8500 thanks again [kia]
