DVD rw formatting

Hello,
How do I do it. If I try to copy documents etc over to my DVD I get Windows has encountered a proble - what do you want Wthe Windows to do "Retry" "Cancel" and meanwhile there is an animation showing files being moved. If I try moving pics from Picasa to the dvd I get Directory Cannot be Created.

Download imageburn or some other disk burning software and issue the erase/format command.
