First time building a computer, help and input appreciated.

So far i have:

Intel Core i7 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0302727

X58 SLI LE Socket 1366 X58 ATX Motherboard http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0312963

Corsair Memory XMS3 4GB DDR3-1600 (PC-12800) CL9 Memory Kit (Two 2GB Memory Modules) http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0317421

EcoGreen F2EG 1TB 5,400RPM 3.5" SATA Hard Drive http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0306106

GeForce GTX 275 896MB GDDR3 PCIe 2.0 x16 Graphics Card http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0326149

Any suggestions to make this better? (I am on a 1000$ budget and this is up to 850$ already) Mainly I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction of a good case and power supply for less than 150.

Also I am not quite sure how triple channel works, so is it ok to have only the two sticks of ram with triple channel?
  2. Before the people @ TH can help you, there is some info they need http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261222-31-build-advice then posted back. I am sure you will get the help you need when you give info they need.

No.....you want matched sets....a pair for the 1156 chipset, three for 1366 ....perhaps an i7 860 makes better sense for you ?

The 275 is not great choice price performance wise right now. See the new January GFX card roundup on the THG homepage. The only pick I don't agree with on there is the 5770.
  4. Thanks for replying so quickly, but I'm not quite sure of what you are saying besides that the gtx275 isnt a good price for performance.
  5. Without info like what rez is your monitor
What you use the PC for
Are you reusing any old part ect its hard to know what is the best bang for the buck

What JackNaylorPE is saying is if you want to only use 2 stick maybe a s1156 with a i7 860 is a better way to go

Or if you want s1366 then 3 2 gig sticks is the better way to go

but without more info its hard to say
  6. 1280x720 currently
    spreadsheets
no not reusing any old parts

Truthfully trying to make a computer that's cheap(or at least with a 1000$) and good for gaming.
Regarding the ram is it possible to buy three packs of 2sticks and split them with a friend to have three a peice, or do they have to be specifically designed in some way for triple channel.
  7. This would be a good PC for games @ your rez and could upgrade your monitor latter

If you want to go cheeper maybe a AMD might work for you ? what games do you play and what FPS are you looking to get ?
