How to install a sound device

Are you trying to use onboard sound or did you go out and buy a sound card? Assuming you are using onboard sound, you need to make sure it's enabled in the bios. Now go to your computer manufactuer's web site, find your model computer, and download the sound drivers for it. Install the sound drivers and you'll be good to go.
