Underperforming hd 4850

system:
Phenom ii x2 550 BE
MSI hd 4850 OC edition
Kingston 2gb RAM
SEAGate 500 gb
HUntkey PSu 550 w (i know its sub standard but its not cause for my low fps ?)



i have the following games..
burnout paradise
Grid
resident evil 5
crysis
far cry 2
prince of persia 08

in all of these games i get lower fps than i should .. i.e. for my system ishould get 30 fps in crysis at high..
but i get 23 fps... far cry 2 i should get 40+ ... iget 28 ..
resident evil 5 also i get low fps.. 25 fps all max

rsolution is 1400 x 900

drivers are 9.12...

OS is win xp sp 2 un updated...

Yeh, there is definitely something wrong. What are your temperatures?

The huntkey may very well be the source of your issues, but even if it isnt you really need to get rid of it soon, the only consistent thing about the huntkey PSUs is their explosive tendencies

Pick one of the games to use as your baseline, try it at high settings, record your FPS, try it at low settings, did the FPS increase significantly? If not then it is a CPU related bottleneck, potentially caused by limited ram.

temperatures are normal 43 idle to 63-65 load....
can my OS be a problem?

ok .. ihave asked many ppl who have got this brand PSU .. though its sub standard and risky.. it runs all games no problem with ... usual FPS for the card....

an how can PSU cause low FPS in all games..

my 3dmark06 score is 11200 ...
4500 + SM 2.0
5500+ SM 3.0
2500+ CPU

Furmark score is 3838 with 54 fps avg...

Into the Pink benchmark score is 9954...... (i checked the scores for this benchmark for similar cards 9800 gtx+ / 8800gts/ other hd 4850s they all have similar or lower scores..)

by the way DO the benchmark software completely measure the realtime perfomance of the GPU?

i just ran a benchmark on resident evil 5 ..
the settings were 4xAA all other settings maxed fixed benchmark- avg fps 40
then i switched off AA and tried
settings 0xAA all other settings maxed - avg fps 38.6 ..
can some one explain this..??
why is there no change in fps?? and fps decreased ...
resolution is 1440 x 900..

1. Is your anti-aliasing turned up?

2. If you have GPU-Z, check to see if the cores go up to the full speed (they downclock when idle) How high?

i have switched off CCC and played the benchmarks.... and i saw GPU z they are not downclocked .. always at 640 mhz..
