Crossfire...Is it possible?

Okay so last year around November I built my computer. My graphics card is HIS ATI radeon 4890. I would like to crossfire with a HIS ATI Radeon 5850.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161302&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL011410&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL011410-_-VideoCards-_-LC2C-_-14161302

Is this possible? Do both cards have to be the same?

More about crossfire possible
  1. Okay I just checked the HIS site and I see the 5970. Same question as above but this card instead.

You must crossfire with the same card. That means you have 1 option. The 4890.

It would probably be worth more to just replace the single card with one of the 5xxx series.
  3. Damn. That sucks. I guess I'll hold out for a little while longer.
  4. Sometimes you can CF cards from the same series, but it's never practical. They need to be matched.
  5. I just checked on Newegg and the 4890 isn't even in stock anymore so I wouldn't even be able to do that.
  6. both cards has to be similar and relatively close in performance

    like 4890 with 4870/4870x2/4890
