Hello,

I have a new Sandy Bridge Dell XPS 17. I want to replace the HDD with a SSD and then put the replaced HDD into my desktop. Does anyone have a how-to for this?

They make drive bay adapters, and handy USB cable for this. Laptop drives are SATA so any onboard cables you already have will plug right in.

Sata connections are all the same, laptop or desktop. I'm guessing the issue you have is mounting the 2.5" laptop hdd in a 3.5" desktop bay. You need an adapter like this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Keep in mind you will need a new license for Windows. Once you transfer the laptop's system to the SSD, that license is used. You will not be able to use same license for both systems; likely the PC that inherits the HDD will need a new one.
