Hey everyone,

Back when everything was happy and good with the world, I used to have two hard drives, C: and G:, with Windows 2000 being the OS on C:\WINNT. Then I had the "brilliant" idea of test driving Windows XP on the G: drive, dual booting, and then uninstalling it if necessary.

So, I prepared to do this, by removing everything from the G: drive (including all references to the TEMP, pagefile, etc on the drive). I did a fresh install of Windows XP on this drive, which setup reformatted and then proceeded to rename F:.

Windows XP works. I can't say I was overly impressed with it. So, I decided to go back to Windows 2000 for the day to get some work done. That's when things went from "eh" to "oh crap."

The first time I rebooted from XP to 2000, I was able to put in my password, Windows was loading my personal settings, then it went dead. Confused, I thought it was a random reboot. I tried again. This time, I got to the desktop, then it rebooted. Odd, I thought. I've only been able to get to the desktop, no further. And if I leave the logon to Windows dialog up for about 45 seconds, the computer reboots nonetheless. This is quite strange behavior, seeing as how I haven't touched the C: since I installed XP.

On a positive note, I am able to get into Windows 2000 in safe mode, and safe mode with networking.

Help please! I have to do some work, and all my programs are in Windows 2000 (where they really should be). Thanks in advance.

hmm, have a veryt similar prob, dual booting xp/98, my 98 install was 100% ok (as far as 98 goes.........), since I dual booted xp, xp is fine, but 98 does exactly the same as your 2k does, very interesting, Please let me know if you find what caused it.

I'm confused. So does that thing with DCOM have anything to do with why I can't do anything with Windows 2000?
