Xp professional unable to complete format after partition

I have 128 mb ram. 40 gb hard disk. after the machine is made on, it is giving os error!! I tried to format the hard disk. After the partition is made the machine has tried to format the c drive using NTFS system. But it has failed to complete the format several times. What to do??? is the hard disk damaged???

Run chkdsk /r on the hard drive

Yep, drive is most likely damaged. You won't be able to run the chkdks because you have no OS on the drive.

Replace it. And upgrade RAM, 128mb is way too low to run XP on. 1gig is just about the least you'd want.
