I have an Acer Travelmate 290. I am upgrading my wireless network to
802.11g protocol. I am curious if it would be possible to replace the Mini
PCI 802.11b card inside my machine with an 802.11g Mini PCI card? I want
everything to work like it did from the factory (on/off switch still works,
etc). I fell like it would be possible, I just wanted to see if anyone had
done this yet? I am fairly proficient with computers and laptops, so
disassembly/reassembly is not too intimidating, but I wanted to check before
I started. The Travelmate's layout is not such that the Mini PCI card will
come out easily. You have to remove the keyboard and possibly the processor
(looking at the service manual), so it is a fairly large undertaking.

Thanks,
Chris

Yes you can. I did it with my Toshiba but the external power switch no
longer works. I got this one for $40.

Thanks Andrew! I went ahead and purchased this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d [...] 5711945290

And since it is just an updated version of the Centrino 802.11b Intel PRO
chipset, I am hoping that the power switch will still work. If not, it is
not the worst thing in the world, since I usually leave it on most of the
time as it is.

Thanks again for you input.
