Hey all.

Have been trawling through the forums, charts and reviews of here and have decided to upgrade my machine from new.

Been asking questions, but just need a little advice, nudge or slap with a suggestion to the motherbaord on which would serve better as a gaming board and better for overclocking OR longtivity (More suitable to upgrades in the long term future)

Asus M4A79XTD Evo 790X or Asus M4A87TD Evo 870

Or again, if there is a better Motherboard for around £80 - £100MAX

Also (last question) whats the 790 and 870 numbers on these? presume its the chipset.. but whats the better? the higher number?

The above will be used with:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
4gb or 8gb GSkill Ripjaw PC3-12800C8 1600Mhz
Palit 470GTX 1280GB DDR5 GPU (already bought)

Many Thanks :)

You'll be better off posting a new build thread in homebuild I think,
Either of those Mobo's is a decent choice for gaming and plenty of scope for O/c fun n' games, although for the sake of three quid, I'd take the M4A87TD Evo 870 ,
the numbers as you guessed are chipset id's, and yes higher number= more recent chips, open to debate on whether newer is always better though,
if your just gaming on the Rig, 4Gb is plenty for now
Nice build man,
Moto

I know its only £3 but one website doesnt sell the other board and vise vera.

So would have to get the motherboard seperate from the rest of the components..

Ebuyer.com and Overclockers.com

Or is there another suggestion to a decent motherboard for around the 90 GBP mark?
