Where do I get one of these? I have looked all through the buy menu and cant
see one. My Sims aspiration thing says she wanted an mp3 player. By the time
I looked everywhere for one she decided it wasn't that important. Is there
one available? Or do I have to download it?

These are bought from vending automatons. There are some in the university
areas. However if you want to buy it for a non-student, you will have to
add one to a community lot. In the neighborhood in houses mode, select a
suitable shop that you think would like to sell electronic gadgets. Go
there, enter furniture mode and select a blue gadget vending machine
(electronics, I think... I found it pretty quickly). Place it somewhere
where the front is free, and the Sims can buy their MP3 players, handheld
games and cell phones there. I strongly recommend cell phones, if you can
remember to never save and exit while a sim is using one. (They will
corrupt the savegame if you do.) Very habit forming for the player. The
other two gadgets are, alas, mostly habit forming for the Sim and
irritating for the player. The handheld is known to have bug issues, or
perhaps it is a feature, such as that the Sim may develop a crush while
playing handheld with another Sim. There are also reports of Sims getting
a crush on themselves while playing... o_O MP3 players are good as long
as you don't need the Sims to go paint or play chess by their own free
will. They will rarely ever do that again once they have a MP3 player. On
the other hand, they will always have a high fun rating if you leave them
alone. ^_^

Wow thanks for that Magnus!
So, this vending machine isn't something you can have at home? I thought
they only wanted things that were available in the buy sections at home. Hmm
that's opened a whole new set of ideas here lol. Thanks again!

This is not the only such wish. Once you have given them toys, sooner or
later they will probably want to shop clothes. At least many of mine do.
And this they can't do from home either, unless you have a hacked object
such as the computer with online shopping. In fact, some very liberal
romance Sims want to have Woohoo in public ... which they can do in the
try-on booth in the clothes shop. Yes, this really happens. To the Sims,
of course! The Sims are so whacky.

Wanting new clothes, I haven't had that yet, but no doubt it will be soon.
*cough* yep, I knew that woohoo option, one of my Sims has taken a liking to
that lol.
These Sims may be wacky, but I have to wonder what the guys/girls at Maxis
are lol, they have some interesting ideas. I don't know what I would do in
my spare time if it wasn't for Sims though. Sad aye?
