Installed originally ok, and when xp reinstalled a year ago, but having re-installed xp again, the driver does not configure correctly, and the asus update driver does not fix the problem

The audio simply does not perform. Control panel says 'it may not be configured correctly' Won't let me un-install, only disable. Have tried several cycles, but same result with Asus' latest driver.
I note several if not many have had the same problem with this board in this way.
I had no problem with the audio malfunction until I did a re-install of XP.
Seems to me to be a problem in the sequence in which the driver is installed relative to other drivers, maybe needing to be installed very early on.
One suggestion elsewhere was to disable soundcard/NB Azalia in the bios + a sequence but am reticent to do that without more knowledge.
